As well as being a great way to relax, restore and make time for yourself I like to describe holistic massage as “a safe way to explore connection with yourself and others”.
Based on the understanding that you are an individual, with a completely unique experience of life and everything that stems from that experience is welcomed without judgement, allowing you to come to each massage exactly as you are, without shame.
When you make a booking through Calendly I will contact you via email or Whatsapp to confirm the booking and check that massage is suitable for you.
This may include why you have come for a massage, what you do for work, how you are currently feeling in yourself and any aches, pains and health conditions you may have in order for me to gain a deeper understanding about you as a person, allowing us to come up with a plan to tailor the session to best meet your needs.
In following sessions this will be much shorter: I will check in with you, discuss any circumstantial changes, and what you are in need of at that moment.
The rest of the session will be filled with bespoke massage, during which I will stick to the plan we have agreed upon together, only diverting from this with your consent, should you ask for something to be changed.
Communicating your needs with me if they change during the session not only increases safety, but is actively welcomed. This is time for you to enjoy, not endure.
At the end of the session I will allow you time to come back to a comfortable place before checking in with you and providing information on after care.
The physical benefits of massage come from the way in which it creates space, the manipulation of tissues allows better circulation, hydration and flexibility which can provide benefits for many symptoms associated with health conditions such as chronic pain, breathing difficulties, and issues with mobility.
By utilising self and co-regulation and connecting you to the root sensations massage can have beneficial effects on the nervous system helping to reduce stress, improve sleep quality and helping to bring about a general feeling of wellness.
By loosening tight muscles, or taking your attention to other sensations I can help you to sink into a pleasant and relaxed state, providing respite from the feelings and pressure of needing to fix things.
When I work with you I will be listening to both your words and your body in order to gain information about what is working for you.
If I notice that an area may require more time than previously planned I will let you know in case you would like us to adapt our plan.
I will check in with you during the massage to make sure that you are comfortable throughout, and I wholeheartedly encourage you to be honest with me and bring to my attention any discomfort, emotional or physical that you experience, So that you can enjoy rather than endure your massage.
Although I understand this is uncomfortable for many people I can assure you I will not be offended and it will allow you to gain far more from your time with me.
Massage is often limited to the back, neck and shoulders however there are many other ways to enjoy the massage, a few examples are skin massage, abdomen massage, assisted breathing techniques, hand holding and lymph drainage.
With the majority of our sensory nerve endings located in our hands, face and feet some of the best and most rewarding touch is done on these areas. I would like to invite you to be explorative in what you would like during the sessions so that you can experience a massage that not only feels good, but wonderful.
I am happy to work at depth and with more pressure on your body, but I do this in a ‘gentle’ way, by taking more time I can allow the tissues to let me in rather than forcing myself through them, and it is important to me that during this you listen and communicate when your body says ‘no’.
Adaptations can easily be made for pain, discomfort or limited mobility, using cushions and supports wherever feels right for you.
